About WBCS (Exe.)

The West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) Examination is the highest competitive administrative examination conducted by WBPSC. Selected officers lead public policy execution, district administration, law & order, revenue administration, and development programs across the state of West Bengal.

The examination recruits into four distinct groups of services:

Group A: Executive, Revenue Service, Commercial Tax, Excise, Agricultural Income Tax, Co-operative Service.
Group B: West Bengal Police Service (WBPS - Deputy Superintendent of Police).
Group C: Joint Block Development Officer (Jt. BDO), Revenue Officer, Sub-Registrar, Consumer Welfare.
Group D: Panchayat Accounts and Audit Officers.

WBCS (Exe.) 2026 Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification

A degree of a recognized University or its equivalent in any discipline.
Ability to read, write, and speak in Bengali (not mandatory for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).

2. Age Limits (as on 1st January)

Group A & C: 21 to 36 Years
Group B (WBPS): 20 to 36 Years (Minimum height: Male 1.65m, Female 1.50m)
Group D: 21 to 39 Years
Age Relaxations: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), up to 45 years for PwD.

WBCS (Exe.) 2026 Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

Phase 1: Preliminary Examination (200 Marks | 2.5 Hours)

Single paper consisting of 200 objective MCQs (25 Marks per subject area):

English Composition (25 M)
General Science (25 M)
Current Events of National & International Importance (25 M)
History of India (25 M)
Geography of India with special reference to West Bengal (25 M)
Indian Polity and Economy (25 M)
Indian National Movement (25 M)
General Mental Ability (Reasoning & Math) (25 M)

Phase 2: Main Examination (For Group A & B: 1600 Marks)

6 Compulsory Papers (200 Marks each = 1200 Marks):
- Paper I: Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali / Santali (Conventional)
- Paper II: English (Conventional)
- Paper III: General Studies-I (Indian History & Geography) (MCQ)
- Paper IV: General Studies-II (Science, Technology, Environment, GK, CA) (MCQ)
- Paper V: The Constitution of India & Indian Economy (MCQ)
- Paper VI: Arithmetic & Test of Reasoning (MCQ)
1 Optional Subject (Paper VII & VIII, 200 M each = 400 Marks) for Group A and B only.

Phase 3: Personality Test

Group A & B: 200 Marks | Group C: 150 Marks | Group D: 100 Marks

Preliminary & Mains Core Syllabus

Indian Freedom Movement & History: Pre-historic, Vedic, Mauryan, Mughal, Socio-religious reform movements, Swadeshi, Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, Quit India Movement, Subhas Chandra Bose & INA.
Geography: Physical, social, and economic geography of West Bengal and India, rivers, soil, climate, mineral wealth, industrial corridors.
Indian Polity & Economy: Preamble, Fundamental Rights & Duties, Directive Principles, Union & State Executive, Judiciary, Planning Commission & NITI Aayog, Reserve Bank, Fiscal policy, GST.
General Mental Ability: Logical reasoning, syllogisms, data interpretation, arithmetic speed problems.
